Previous Solihull Stilt Walkers and World Scout Jamboree

A Team of 7 Fellowship members from Solihull ran an exhausting base at the world scout Jamboree and were part of the ‘Gilwell Experience'.

We arrive down at Gilwell park where already a load of preparations had been done to transform the park into an activity area that would handle 4,000 visitors a day for the full duration of the Camp. We had 3 days to put up all the extra activities. It was stunning to be part of. The first day was a bit of a trial run but then we all headed out to The main site at Highlands park to be part of the grand opening ceremony. A few of us were performing on our stilts (Like you do)

The whole week was staggering we recruited 3 Americans a Brazilian, a scouter from Malaysia two leaders fro Mauritius, and several English members of the IST to help us run the base and over the 14 days we taught over 2,750 people to walk on our Springy stilts, we worked very hard but had a great time, we had a grazed knee and a head injury to one of the team (something about showing off!) but other than that we had no injuries.

he week was finished off with a second visit to Highlands Park to be part of the Closing ceremony, this time with our bouncy stilts which in the rain on the damp grass was a bit of an experience. We are now looking forward to performing outside the arena at Live 07 and then off to Gilwell for the Cub and Beaver Weekend and then next summer we are at Essex International Scout camp, for another go with the stilts. If you are interested in joining us then just contact us through our website, or contact one of the team.
