Letter to County Commisioner from Chief Scout, Peter Duncan
| SOCCER SIX TOURNAMENT - May 14 2006 |
9 December 2005
The Scout Association has teamed up with the Soccer Six celebrity football tournament. Together we are offering a fantastic opportunity for young people in your area to attend a great day out in May 2006.
The Soccer Six tournament has been bringing together top names from the music industry and television for good causes since 1995. Soccer Six started life at Mile End Stadium in the East End of London, and is now the original and best celebrity football tournament. Celebrities including Jarvis Cocker, Damon Albarn, Jamiroquai and Jude Law all laced up their boots for the inaugural event, and since then, the event has grown in size and attracted many A-list stars from the UK and abroad.
As Chief Scout, I will be donning my football boots and playing on one of the celebrity teams, and I am asking that as many Scouts as possible are there to cheer me on. I know I am going to face some tough competition!
Recent players include Rod Stewart, Cat Deeley, Robbie Williams, Gail Porter, Chris Evans, Ant and Dec, Amanda Holden and Lennox Lewis. Bands like Westlife, Oasis, Iron Maiden, and the Stereophonics have all taken part. TV stars from Emmerdale, Eastenders and Coronation Street have got their knees muddy for Soccer Six. The tournament winners are crowned Soccer Six Champions and are added to the prestigious Roll of Honour which includes teams from Radio One, Hollyoaks and pop bands Blue and The Darkness.
In 2006, the event will be taking place at a top Premiership ground in Birmingham on Sunday 14th May. It would be fantastic if you could mention the event as you go out and about in Scouting.
Not only is this a fun day out for Scouts but it is also an opportunity to talk about the adventure of Scouting. Cup Promotions, who organise Soccer Six, has given The Scout Association a fantastic opportunity to promote Scouting, including free banners around the stadium, an article in the match day programme and name announcements by the MC.
Tickets for the event cost £10 each. We have negotiated that Groups who buy tickets can keep 20% of the net ticket price* (£1.70 per ticket). This will help with the cost of travel to the venue, or other expenses on the day. For every 10 tickets bought, one will be given free, and the Group that brings the most people to the event will win a Soccer Six shirt signed by the celebrities who play on the day - perfect for a raffle prize!
The Soccer Six tournament will kick off at midday, and will round up at 5.30pm. From February 1st 2006 detailed information about the venue, gate opening times, parking and travel arrangements will be available on www.soccer-six.com . Tickets can be booked from the same date on the Scout ticket hotline - 0870 4000 696.

I look forward to seeing you there!
Peter Duncan Chief Scout
P.S - If you are unable to attend, please encourage your Scouts to attend with friends and family and show the public and your local community the modern face of Scouting that we want to portray.
